The weather in Fuerteventura is excellent all year round considering this is one of the windiest of the Canary Islands. Much of the wind experienced on this beautiful island is coming from the Western Sahara which is generally quite warm.
Weather in Fuerteventura, Temperature & Climate
Fuerteventura is located south of Lanzarote and to the east of Gran Canaria. In terms of land mass, Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands and home to around 110,000 inhabitants. This island is extremely popular with tourists attracting over 1 million yearly visitors to it’s 150 plus sandy beaches. The excellent conditions for windsurfing and surfing also help to attract plenty of tourism.
The average yearly temperature in Fuerteventura is 21 Celsius or 70 F. During the warmer summer months of June, July & August the average temperature is 25 Celsius. The cooler winter months of December, January and February see an average temperature of 18 Celsius.
Autumn Weather in Fuerteventura
The Weather in Fuerteventura in autumn is fairly similar to the summer months although the temperature will gradually begin to decrease after September. The average temperature during these months is a warm 25 Celsius although you are likely to see the odd day of rain in October and November.
September is the first of the autumn months but the temperature is only marginally cooler than August. The high temperature for September is 28 Celsius with a low of 21 Celsius. September is likely to see one or two days of rainfall but the precipitation will be minimal. The big difference between September and August is the hours of sunshine, most of this month will see only 8 hours although the sea temperature will remain at 22 Celsius.
October sees a further drop in the average temperature but you can still expect most days to be around 26 Celsius. The low temperature will not drop much below 21 Celsius during October but the hours of sunshine again will drop to around 7 hours. October historically sees around double the amount of rainfall and rainy days compared to September. You are likely to see two or three days of rainfall in October but the precipitation when it arrives will be more than the previous month. The sea temperature suprisingly will remain at 22 Celsius throughout this month, still nice and warm for a swim
November is the last of the autumn months when the temperature will continue to drop and the days of rainfall will increase. The average temperature for November is a pleasant 21 Celsius with a low of no less than 18 Celsius. Historically there are around 4 days of rainfall in November but the precipitation will be almost double that of October. Normally you can expect around 7 hours of sunshine during this month and a sea temperature of 21 Celsius.
Winter Weather In Fuerteventura
The winter weather in Fuerteventura is still pretty good although the temperature is beginning to drop and the amount of rain is increasing. Winter is actually the busiest time of the year in most of the Canary Islands with tourists looking for some winter sun. The average temperature throughout the months of December, January and February is still a pleasant 18 Celsius.
December sees more rainfall than any other month but the average temperature is still a mild 19 Celsius. Historically it only rains in December for around four days but the precipitation levels are much higher. The hours of sunshine will now be as low as 6 and the sea temperature will drop to 20 Celsius. A record high of 29.5 Celsius has been recorded in December so you can still expect plenty of warm days when then temperature will exceed 20 Celsius.
January is typically the coldest month in Fuerteventure with an average temperature of 18 Celsius. Although the temperature is cooler than December, there is less rainfall than the previous month. The sea temperature drops again to 19 Celsius and the hours of sunshine will remain at 6 during this month. A high temperature of 28.5 Celsius has been recorded in January and this month is one of the busiest for tourism in the Canary Islands generally.
February sees the end of the winter months as the temperature begins to rise leading up to spring. The average temperature is marginally warmer than January and there is around the same amount of rainfall during this month. The hours of sunshine during February will now rise to 7 but the sea temperature will drop to 18 Celsius. A record high temperature of 30.8 Celsius has been recorded in February, many days will seem quite warm at around 21 Celsius.
Spring Weather In Fuerteventura
The weather in Fuerteventura in spring is close to perfect for those that live in colder climates. The average temperature during March, April and May is as high as 24 Celsius and there will be less rainfall than the winter months.
March is the start of the spring months, the later part of March will see the temperature beginning to increase. The average temperature during this month is 19 Celsius with less rainfall than the previous month. The hours of sunshine will now increase to 8 but the sea temperature will remain at a chilly 18 Celsius. March has recorded a high temperature of 34 Celsius in recent years so you are likely to need the sun cream for some of the days during this month.
April sees the temperature increasing nicely from the previous month and the expected rainfall dropping again. The average temperature in April is a warm 20 Celsius but the high is around 23 Celsius. April will probably see one day of rainfall only and the sea temperature will increase to 19 Celsius. A record high temperature of a baking 38 Celsius has been recorded in April, only June, July and August have seen a hotter temperature over the last 30 years.
May again sees the average temperature rising to 21 Celsius and there is virtually no rainfall during this month. The high temperature is around 24 Celsius during May, this will probably not drop much below 19 Celsius during the month. The hours of sunshine will again increase to 9 during May but the sea temperature will remain at 19 Celsius. The record highest temperature recorded in May is marginally less than April at 36.8 Celsius.
Summer Weather In Fuerteventura
The summer weather in Fuerteventura as you may expect is hot with no rainfall at all. Summer begins in June and includes July and August although September is typically as hot as August historically. The average temperature throughout these months is between 25 – 28 Celsius although it’s normal to have plenty of days that will be hotter than 30 Celsius. A top temperature of 43 Celsius has been recorded in July during the past 20 years.
June is the start of the summer season in Fuerteventura when the average temperature will be around 24 Celsius. There is normally no rainfall in June and a top temperature of 41.6 Celsius has been recorded during this month. The evenings are nice and warm and the sea temperature is a pleasant 21 Celsius. You can normally expect 10 hours of sunshine to enjoy during the month of June but be prepared for some hotter than anticipated days.
July can seem just as hot as August, particularly the second half of the month when the hottest temperature ever was recorded (43 Celsius). There is no rainfall in July and the average temperature for the month is 25 Celsius. The last two weeks of July are typically the hottest when the temperature will frequently top 30 Celsius. The low for July is a warm 21 Celsius but you are unlikely to experience this often if at all. There are 10 hours of sunshine in July and the sea temperature is 21 Celsius.
August is marginally hotter than July when the temperature is averaged out in terms of days for this month. The average temperature is reportedly 28 Celsius but this temperature is conservative to say the least. Most of the days will top 30 Celsius during August, particularly on the west coast with the hot Sahara air. August is the last of the summer months when the hours of sunshine will drop to 9 hours. There is no rainfall in August and the temperature will never drop below 22 Celsius, the same as the sea temperature for this month.
