Weather in Lanzarote, Average Temperatures & Forecast
Lanzarote is the third most populated behind Tenerife and Gran Canaria with around 140,000 inhabitants.
Lanzarote has previously recorded over 5 millions visitors in a year and continues to be one of the busiest islands of the Canaries. The popular tourist resorts of Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca are located here. The winter average temperature is as high as 17 Celsius and does not tend to drop much lower. The average temperature during the hotter summer months is 25 Celsius but this is likely to seem much warmer in July, August and September.
Autumn Weather in Lanzarote
The Weather in Lanzarote in the Autumn months of September, October and November is still hot but the temperature is gradually decreasing. September is almost as hot as August but you are more likely to see some rain. October and November will also have good temperatures but it will rain for several days at least for each of those months.
September is the beginning of the autumn months when the temperature begins to drop after the hot summer. Most of September is similar to August with an average temperature of around 25 Celsius. September has a good 8 hours of sunshine and the sea temperature is a warm 22 Celsius. Although the temperatures is dropping you can expect to see plenty of days that top 30 Celsius. A high temperature of 40.5 Celsius has been recorded in September previously and you will be unlikely to see more than one day of rain during this month.
October sees a considerable drop of around two Celsius after a hot September. The weather in October in Lanzarote is still excellent with an average temperature of 23 Celsius. The daily hours of sunshine will remain at 8 and the sea temperature will stay at 22 Celsius. October sees two or three days rainfall on average but the precipitation levels are minimum during this month. A high temperature of 37.1 Celsius has been recorded previously so you are likely to see plenty of days in the high twenties and perhaps creeping up to 30 Celsius.
November sees another drop in temperature in Lanzarote and the sea temperature will decrease to 21 Celsius. The average daily temperature during November is a warm 21 Celsius but there will be a significant increase in the amount of rainfall and precipitation. The evenings will begin to feel much cooler during as well lead into the winter months. The sun can still reach high temperatures in November, this month has previously recorded a high temperature of 34.2 Celsius.
Winter Weather In Lanzarote
The temperature during the winter months of December, January and February will reach it’s lowest yearly levels and there will be significantly more rainfall and days of rain. The average temperature in winter is 17 – 18 Celsius and the hours of sunshine will decrease also.
December is by far the rainiest month in Lanzarote with around four of five days of expect rainfall. This month sees double the precipitation of most months but the average temperature is still warm at 19 Celsius. The hours of sunshine drop to 6 during December and the sea level drops to 20 Celsius. The evenings during December will now be much cooler but probably not drop much below 15 Celsius. The recorded high temperate in recent years in December is 27.5 Celsius, this is lower than any other month of the year.
January is the coldest month in Lanzarote but also one of the most popular for visitors to the Canary Islands in general. The average daily temperature is 17 Celsius but there will still be plenty of days that reach 20 Celsius. The hours of sunshine are slightly more than December but this is marginal. January will see around three days of rainfall but the precipitation will be much less than the previous month. A record high temperature during January was 27.9 Celsius but the sea temperature will now drop to 19 Celsius.
February sees the temperature gradually increasing along with with the hours of expected sunshine. The average temperature during February will rise to 18 Celsius but the sea level will drop to this temperature also. This month sees more rainfall than January historically, you can expect around three days of rainfall. The evening temperature will also increase as winter reaches it’s conclusion at the end of the month. The highest recorded temperature in recent years in February was as high as 29 Celsius so you will probably need the sun tan cream.
Spring Weather In Lanzarote
The spring weather In Lanzarote is particularly good and the months of March, April and May are popular with tourists. The temperature is now increasing and the rainfall is becoming less and less frequent.
March is the beginning of spring when the temperature will begin to increase, this is especially true towards the end of the month. The hours of sunshine will increase to 8 hours and the average temperature will increase to 19 Celsius. There will likely be a few days of rainfall but the precipitation will be much less than February. The sea temperature will remain at a chilly 18 Celsius but the normal outside temperature will increase into to the twenties for many days during this month. A high temperature of 32.7 Celsius has been recorded previously in March.
April sees another noticeable increase in the temperature and the hours of sunshine will increase to 9 hours. The average temperature during April is 20 Celsius with a low of around 17 Celsius. The amount of rainfall in April is much less than previous months and the sea level increases to 19 Celsius. April has previously recorded a high temperature of 36.3 Celsius.
May is the final spring month but could quite easily be considered a summer month. The average temperature in May is 21 Celsius but this will likely be closer to 25 Celsius for many days of this month. There is usually little to no rainfall during May and the hours of sunshine will increase to 10 leading into summer. The sea temperature will remain at 19 Celsius for most of this month. A high temperature of 42.6 Celsius has been recorded in May, only July and August has seen a hotter temperature in recent years.
Summer Weather In Lanzarote
The summer weather in Lanzarote is typically hot with it’s close proximity to the Western Sahara and the African mainland. Lanzarote is marginally the hottest of the Canary Islands especially on the eastern coast with the warm air blown from the Sahara Desert. This hot air can sometimes create very hazy conditions when visibility becomes much more difficult. Although the average temperature is around 25 Celsius, May, June, July, August and September have all recorded temperatures that have exceeded 40 Celsius.
June is the beginning of the summer months in Lazarote and the temperature will begin to increase dramatically. The average temperature in June is 23 Celsius but this is much hotter towards the ends of the month. The hours of sunshine will remain at 10 but the sea temperature will increase to 21 Celsius. There is precious little rainfall during this month in recent years. It’s common for the temperature during June to top 30 Celsius and a high temperature of 40.6 Celsius was previously recorded.
July is one of the hottest months in Lanzarote when the temperature will consistently top 30 Celsius. The average temperature for the month is 26 Celsius but this seem much hotter for most of the month. There has never been any recorded rainfall in July over the last 30 years at least. The hours of sunshine will remain at 10 and the sea temperature will remain at 21 Celsius. July has previously recorded a high temperature of 42.9 Celsius, only August has recorded a hotter temperature in recent years.
August is the hottest month in Lanzarote with an average temperature of at least 25 Celsius. Most days of August will be much hotter than the monthly average suggests and frequently top 30 Celsius. August, like July has no rainfall at all but he sea temperature increases to 22 Celsius as summer reaches it’s conclusion. The hottest temperature previously recorded in August us a baking 43.6 Celsius, hotter than any other monthly high temperature.
