Playa de las Américas is a custom built tourist resort located on the southern coast of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Known as the party capital of the island, Playa de las Américas is one of the top tourist destinations in Europe.
Playa de las Américas, Tenerife
Tenerife as a whole attracts more visitors each year than any of the other Canary Islands and possibly anywhere else in Spain. Many of the best known and most visited tourist resorts are found in Tenerife. Playa de las Américas is where everyone heads for the vibrant nightlife, 24 hour parties and all night dancing. This is especially true of Verónicas strip which is full of bars, restaurants, nightclubs and just about anything else a reveler could need.
Playa de las Américas is located next to Los Cristianos and just south of the popular Costa Adeje in the municipality of Arona. These resorts help to form several parts of the Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This area of the island like all of Tenerife is dwarfed by one one the biggest volcanoes in the world. The ominous Mount Teide is located just to the east in the centre of the island.
Playa de las Américas Beaches
The Playa de las Américas beaches contain largely imported sand from the Sahara Desert due to the volcanic nature of Tenerife. Many of the beaches on the island are the familiar black sand composition, the most popular beaches here are the imported golden sand. Troya is probably the most popular beach here with golden sand and the beautiful promenade lined with great bars, shops and restaurants. This beach is great for the whole family, Troya is equipped with an abundance of services such as sunbeds, toilets and two beach bars. The water is particularly calm here and there are many water sports and equipment hire services on offer such as jet-skis, paddle boats and various board activities. El Camison and El Puerito are two more beaches located close by which are also worth checking out.
Playa de las Américas Weather
The Playa de las Américas weather is exceptional all year round and very similar to what you can expect in Costa Adeje. The temperature in Playa de las Américas seldom drops below 18 Celsius in the colder months and can rocket up to close to 40 Celsius during summer. The average yearly temperature is around 21 Celsius but this island tends to get more rain than some of the other Canaries. The coldest months are December, January and February when the average temperature is between 18-19 Celsius. These months tend to see significantly more rainfall than the rest of the year but the temperature is still fairly mild. The Sea temperature does not often drop below 20 Celsius, this will likely be in February and March. The hottest months here are July, August and September when the temperature will frequently exceed 30 Celsius and perhaps get close to 40 Celsius. Most of the summer months have previously recorded temperatures that exceed 40 Celsius so do me not be suprised if this happens during your visit. The spring and autumn months are close to ideal for most people, there is normally more rainfall around during these seasons but the temperature will always remain fairly warm.
Las Américas Golf
Golf is particularly popular in Las Américas with the majestic 18 hole golf course which was built in 1988 by John Jacobs Associates. This beautiful course has a restaurant, tons of facilities and the Las Madrigueras hotel built alongside the course.
