Weather In Cabo Roig, Forecast & Average Temperature

Cabo Roig is one of the leading tourist locations on the Orihuela Costa, part of the Costa Blanca on the eastern coast of Spain. This area is particular popular with expats from Ireland, Britain and Scandinavia who flock to the area during the summer months to soak up the Cabo Roig weather and climate. Located around 15 minutes south of the popular City of Torrevieja, the weather in Cabo Roig is virtually identical and enjoys the same micro-climate.

The Alicante mountain range provides a protective shield against the worse weather fronts while helping to keep the warmer climate air inside the area. There are a few other factors that contribute largely to the excellent climate and weather in Cabo Roig, the close proximity to the Mediterranean Sea and the salt lakes of Torrevieja, (Las Salinas de Torrevieja). The combination of all of these factors help to keep this stretch of Mediterranean coastline one of the healthiest places to live in Europe.

Cabo Roig Weather & Averages in Summer

The summer weather in Cabo Roig can be extremely hot, especially in June, July and August when temperatures will be in excess of 30 Celsius most of the time. May is the start of the tourist season when temperatures are beginning to creep up. The summer tends to end in September when the temperatures begin to cool, there is still plenty of good weather to be had well into October and November although the nights will become significantly colder.

May – Technically the summer months do not begin until the beginning of June but the temperatures are already heating up nicely in May. Already the temperatures are between 20 – 25 Celsius most days and can exceed 30 Celsius towards the end of the month. There is still quite a bit of rainfall around in early May but not as much as April. May is also the beginning of the tourist season when the population swells and the beaches start to get busier.

June – The weather in Cabo Roig is June is excellent for virtually the entire month. Temperatures are already between 25 – 30 Celsius on average and it’s common to half plenty of days that are over 30 Celsius. The tourist season is now in full flow and the beaches will be busy more often than not. June still has the odd day of rain here and there but not a significant amount, this rain is also appreciated as it’s likely to remain fairly dry for the next few months.

July – The weather in July is extremely hot as one might expect as we enter the height of summer around the middle of the month. Average temperatures in July are between 28 – 32 Celsius but towards the end of the month there will be plenty of days that hit the mid thirties. Historically there virtually no rainfall in July, the sea breeze coming from the Mediterranean Sea is most welcome around this time. It’s a good idea to make sure you have some sort of air conditioning to get through July and August as the night time temperatures will remain in the late twenties.

August – August like most of the Costa Blanca is the hottest month when temperatures will be over 30 Celsius most days. There is little rainfall in August and temperatures will be over 35 and hit 40 Celsius a few days out of the month. The end of August sees the end of the summer months but the hot weather will continue well into September.

September – September is the start of autumn in Cabo Roig, temperatures will still exceed 30 Celsius at the beginning of the month but will begin to cool towards the end of September. It’s still common to experience temperatures in the mid thirties on several days of the month but there will be more rainfall as the temperatures begin to cool.

Cabo Roig Winter Weather & Averages

The winter weather in Cabo Roig is fairly mild in comparison to some of the other locations on the Costa Blanca. The winter months are December, January and February when the temperatures never really drop below 11 Celsius during the day. There is a lot more rainfall as one may expect with January having more days of rain than any other month.

October – The weather in October is normally unpredictable in October, although there are not as many days of rain as January, the precipitation is over treble. The reason for the high precipitation is the weather phenomenon known as a “Gota Fria” or “Cold Drop” in English. As the temperatures begin to cool, the colder air from the Atlantic in the west and the Pyrenees mountains in the north meets the warmer air on the east coast of Spain. The result of a “Gota Fria” can be disastrous with heavy rainfall for several days, winds of up to 150 km per hour and large hail stones. Apart from the risk of this weather phenomenon, temperatures in October are still around 20 Celsius but the evenings are beginning to get colder.

November – November sees the temperatures dropping considerably with average temperatures of between 15 – 18 Celsius. There are more days of rain than October but the precipitation levels are much lower. The evening temperatures will now be around 10 Celsius so it’s a good idea to start thinking about some form of heating in your home.

December – December sees the end of Autumn and the beginning of winter as temperatures frop further to between 12 – 14 Celsius during the day. The evenings will now be particularly cold with average temperatures of around 8 Celsius. December will also have more rainy days than November but the precipitation levels are lower.

January – The middle of January is the height of winter and the coldest and wettest month in Cabo Roig. There are more rainy days in January than any other month but the precipitation levels are relatively low. The evening temperatures will now be dropping to around 6 Celsius, the homes in Spain are made to be cool so you will definitely need some heating in this month.

February – February is when the winter is coming to an end and temperatures are gradually beginning to increase again. There are fewer rainy days than January although the precipitation levels are around the same. The evening are still pretty cold with average temperatures of around 7 Celsius.

March – March is the beginning of Spring when temperatures start to increase significantly, the daily average temperature will be around 15 Celsius. There is slightly less rainfall in March and the evening temperatures will be somewhere around 9 Celsius.

April – Temperatures are still increasing in April when you can expect temperatures of between 18 – 20 Celsius. There are fewer days of rain in April but the precipitation levels are quite high. The evening temperature will also increase to around 12 Celsius as we approach the warmer summer months.
